10 This War Of Mine Tips & Tricks
A while ago Frostpunk from 11 Bits Studios came out and I thought, why shouldn't I pass on my knowledge to you again? But not for Frostpunk , but for one of my all-time favorite games: This War of Mine !
So here are ten This War of Mine tips !
1. Distribute tasks
No person in the household should be left without a task . The time your characters can do something in each day is very limited and it must be used well! Ideally, they should also do the things they do best . See point 9 for this!
2. Nutrition
Hunger and disease will quickly return to your accommodation. The stages of hunger are: Well-fed , Normal , Hungry , Very Hungry , Starving and Starving . The condition should never go beyond Hungry, because then the characters become weak. You should upgrade the stove as quickly as possible, then you can make two portions of food instead of just one, and thus feed two people at the same time.
3. Medications
Not only do you have to keep an eye on hunger, but also on the health of your survivors! Here are the levels: Slightly Sick , Sick , Seriously Sick and Deathly Sick .
You shouldn't ignore the mildly ill stage and should do something about it straight away. People quickly become weak and can very quickly move little or not at all.
4. Mental Health
Events that your characters experience or trigger themselves can have a good or bad effect on their mood . If you help other people who knock on your door, for example, the mood will remain stable. If a character dies or an innocent person is killed, the residents become depressed .
Good deeds, enough food, plenty of sleep and guitar and radio music will help you to brighten your mood again. Some characters also have individual needs (smokers, coffee drinkers, etc.) that must be satisfied to improve their mood.
5. Don't collect everything from your house
I often had the feeling that looters were magically attracted to houses that had a lot in their inventory . Once something is in your inventory, you can't store it in cupboards. It's more work to chase the individual residents back and forth when you need materials, but at least you keep almost everything.
Even residents who eventually get fed up and leave you overnight will hardly be able to steal from you.
6. Expand your house
That should be the priority at the beginning! Build a workbench and weapons bench , prepare a bed , set up a stove and expand it quickly, and make the house burglar-proof . The latter will be particularly beneficial to your survivors later on! Looters will try to break into your house and get your supplies. But if a secured house and armed residents stand in their way, almost nothing will be stolen and hardly anyone will be hurt.
7. Avoid dangerous areas
This is an absolute beginner's tip ! Getting or buying weapons and the corresponding ammunition is a difficult and expensive undertaking. Fortunately, you can survive completely without using these things. That's why I recommend only visiting quiet and safe places at the beginning. You can identify such places by looking at the description in the map view.
8. Loot every day
I almost always send the person who has the most backpack slots . More space, more stuff to loot. At the beginning, the person is always sent somewhere safe . On the one hand, you can take everything with you in peace and on the other hand, the character is not harmed. The most important thing is that you loot quickly and efficiently. Winter is coming soon and then many places will no longer be available.
After looting, the character must sleep because he should always go to "work" well rested. It takes forever to revive people when they are extremely exhausted.
9. Characters and their strengths
Every character has their weaknesses, but of course also their strengths. They are particularly good in these areas and should be used there. This will save you time, injuries and materials .
Bruno: good cook
Marko: skilled plunderer
Boris: strong but slow
Christo: determined father
Roman: battle-tested
Emilia: talented lawyer
Katia: can haggle well
Zlata: gives courage
Pavle: fast runner
Arica: good at sneaking
Marin: Craftsman
Anton: good mathematician
Henrik: Tobacconist
Cveta: fond of children
Children have no abilities.
10. SUPER IMPORTANT! Write it down!
What helped me the most was really making note of the resources I needed . Do you want to upgrade your cooking area or make your house more secure? Then go to the workbench and take a close look at which materials you need. It's really annoying when you're missing exactly one piece of wood to improve an important item. This often leads to a surplus of materials and the looters smell it.
