20 Years of Harry Potter - 20 Years of Magic
Man, has it really been 20 years since Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was released? You feel old, not just because your favorite music from your school days now has its own cult theme parties or you are no longer asked for your ID when you buy an FSK 18 DVD. No, Joanne K. Rowling has been letting us share in her wonderful universe for two whole decades and yes, now I feel really old!
20 Years of Harry Potter - The New Edition
To mark this great anniversary, there are now "in-house" new editions of the Harry Potter books in four different versions. Eager Harry Potter collectors have probably already had teary eyes and an empty wallet when they saw these really great editions.
Bloomsbury hired Levi Pinfold as an illustrator and released four different versions of the first book: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff & Ravenclaw . You can also find the great drawings on his website under Levi Pinfold .
The hardcover books, which are only available in English, have a high-quality cover. You have to treat it well, otherwise the signs of wear and tear can show relatively quickly. The cover is decorated with the respective house crest in the appropriate color. Directly below are the three most important words that best describe the respective house.
The meanings behind the coats of arms
But what impresses me most about this edition is the fact that Levi really put some thought into the heraldry (coat of arms). The covers were apparently not just meant to look pretty, but to reflect a deeper meaning. In addition to the well-known animals - lion, snake, badger and eagle - there are many other small details to discover, such as in Slytherin. The crescent moon stands for fame and honor and the two cockatrices (a mixture of rooster and snake) symbolize bitter fighters. Although the honor didn't work out so well sometimes, Slytherin is still reflected very well in the coat of arms.
The exciting topic of heraldry has been covered in detail for each house on Pottermore : Pottermore
It remains to be seen whether there will be further editions of this book. However, I can very well imagine that there will be more great special editions to mark the 20th anniversary of the other Harry Potter books.
Thank you so much for the great surprise, Mom!
