Sakura Burger Recipe
Today is Easter Sunday, but instead of writing a typical Easter post, we're going to Japan for a culinary treat. The Hanami season 花見has started there. Hanami means "looking at flowers" and the flowers in this case are the Sakura 桜(cherry blossoms).
To mark this special event, McDonald's released a very special pink Sakura burger in 2014. My sister and I were inspired by this burger and created our own.
I'll include links for the ingredients that are a bit harder to get.
Preparation
Allow 1 1/2 hours for the yeast dough to rise. Preheat the oven to 190 degrees (top/bottom heat) and bake for about 15 minutes.
Ingredients for the buns
1 PK | dry yeast |
450g | Flour |
40g | Sugar |
1 tsp | Salt |
40g | butter |
1 | egg |
30 drops | pink/red food coloring |
180ml | Water |
a little | condensed milk |
ingredients for the patties
400g | ground beef |
100g | Nuts (e.g. peanuts) |
a little | Salt |
a little | pepper |
topping
For the toppings, you can use whatever you like, such as lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, etc. But what is important for this special burger is the Japanese mayonnaise, which you can color pink with a few drops of food coloring.
Preparation of buns
Mix all the ingredients for the burger bun together, except for the water and condensed milk. Gradually add the water and knead well. Then cover with a cloth and leave to rise for half an hour.
After half an hour, divide into 8-10 equal-sized buns and let rest, covered, for another hour.
Before the buns go into the oven, they get a small coating of condensed milk.
preparation of patties
Chop the nuts into small pieces and put them in a bowl with the minced meat. Season to taste and knead everything well. Then form individual balls and then press them flat. Please note that the patties always have to be a little bigger than the buns when they are raw, because the meat shrinks a little in the pan.
Place the patties in a heated and oiled pan and fry until the preferred level of doneness is reached.
Last step of the Sakura Burger recipe
When the buns and patties are ready, you can top the burger as you like. For the picture, we kept it relatively simple, so there was only cheese, cucumber and lettuce as toppings. But in addition to the pink burger bun, the mayonnaise should of course also be pink. To do this, you need to fill a cup with the Japanese mayonnaise and add as much liquid food coloring as you like until it turns pink.
Stack everything and tadaaa: the Sakura Burger is ready!
I hope you have a lot of fun with the Sakura Burger recipe, because it is really delicious and have a good time during the Easter holidays!
