7 New York Tips for Nerds
I recently went to New York and that's why I'm giving you, my dear geeks and nerds, a few tips to suit your taste!
1. Eat American food
When do you ever get the chance to eat a real American burger or dine in a diner? It's rare, so go out and experience the full culinary variety that awaits you in New York! Be it a greasy - but damn tasty - burger at Five Guys or Shake Shake , the Hawaiian dish Poké Bowl or Prezel M&Ms , just give it a try!
My tips: Snapple Peach Ice Tea, Poké Bowl, Burger and Peanut Butter Milk Shake from Five Guys!
2. The Ride
I have rarely experienced such a fun tour as The Ride ! If you are bored with the classic hop on hop off bus tours, then you are right! In this bus you sit sideways and look out of windows that cover the entire left side and the roof. During the tour you are entertained by two really weird but also really amusing entertainers, while you clap, sing and marvel. In addition to the facts about the city and the karaoke interludes, the live acts in particular are a real eye-catcher. They perform live for you on the street, which can lead to some really weird situational comedy!
Duration: approx. 2 hours
Cost: $69

3. Comic Store
It doesn't get more American than a comic book store, and of course there are a few of them in New York! Unfortunately, I was only able to visit one, and it's located right on Times Square. Midtown Comics is a chain that not only sells American comics and all kinds of merchandise (from clothes to lifelike figures), but they also offer Japanese imports.
But there are so many other shops that are definitely worth a visit!
4. Central Park TV & Movie Sites Tour
Background knowledge is one of my biggest hobbies. Films and series are also a passion of mine. So both can only work together and that's what happened with the Central Park Movie Tour ! Our guide Max was a really nice guy who led us through the big park and showed us, for example, where Chandler and Monica got married or where Barny Stinson worked. In addition to film and series facts, there are also a few anecdotes about the city.
The great thing is that there are many other tours on offer! From Gossip Girl to Superheroes, there is everything and some tours are even conducted in German!
Duration: approx. 2 hours
Cost: $25

5. Musicals
If you like musicals and have perhaps already seen everything in Hamburg or elsewhere, then start in New York. There are often plays there that are not currently being performed anywhere else, such as the Disney musical Frozen or Anastasia . We saw the latter at the Broadhurst Theater and it was simply fantastic!
Duration: depending on the musical approx. 1.5-3 hours
Costs: from cheap to three-digit range, everything is included

6th Broadway
Nerve-racking advance ticket sales or long lines for an autograph at conventions? Sometimes it doesn't have to be that way! If you want to catch a glimpse of your favorite actor and see them live in action, Broadway makes it possible! I myself was able to see a play with Michael Cera and Chris Evans in Lobby Hero and right next door Jim Parson and Zachary Quinto are currently starring in The Boys in the Band . A little tip: If you are already in NY and would like to see a play, I advise you to buy the tickets on site. They charge a huge flat rate online, which you can save.
Duration: depending on the piece approx. 1.5-3 hours
Costs: from cheap to three-digit range, everything is included

7. NYC Pass
At first glance, the NYC Pass seems damn expensive, but it's worth it! If you want to experience a lot and don't mind a tight schedule, then this pass is exactly right for you! For a few activities (like The Ride or Central Park Tour) you still have to register online, but otherwise you can simply download the pass onto your phone and show it in museums, for example.
Duration: 1-10 days
Cost: $124 - $419 (there are often offers!)

If you're in New York soon or at some point, I hope you have a lot of fun! If you have any travel tips for me, please let me know!
